You’ll explore grounding and centering through research, theory, diverse healing traditions, practical techniques, case examples, and live experience — while learning to recognize when to use a technique, when to modify it, and when another approach may be more appropriate.

LIVE 3-DAY MASTERCLASS

You Already Know Grounding & Centering.

But Do You Know When to Use Each
— and When Not To?

Grounding and centering are among the most familiar practices in energy work. But they are not the same thing. They don’t serve the same purpose. And the technique you’ve always relied on may not be the right choice for every client — or every moment.

In this live 3-day masterclass, Dr. Lori Chortkoff Hops takes you beneath these familiar practices to explore why the distinction matters, how to recognize what the person in front of you actually needs, and how to adapt your approach with greater awareness and care.
October 19, 21, & 22 • 6pm Central Time

What If Grounding & Centering Aren’t Quite What You Think?

You already know these practices matter. But Lori’s work invites you to look at some familiar assumptions in a completely new way.
  • What if grounding and centering aren’t interchangeable? They are distinct processes, and a person may be grounded without being centered, centered without being grounded, or experiencing neither.
  • What if grounding isn’t always the right first step? Even something as familiar as focusing on the breath may not be supportive for every person in every moment. How do you recognize when to continue, adjust, pause, or choose another approach?
  •  What if the technique is right — but the way it’s delivered changes the response?  Imagery, movement, sensation, pacing, intensity, and other factors can affect how someone responds. What works beautifully for one person may feel completely wrong for another.
  • What if your client doesn’t experience imagery the way you do?  Not everyone easily visualizes. Lori explores other sensory pathways and ways of adapting grounding and centering so the practice fits the person rather than forcing the person to fit the technique.
  • And what if your own grounding and centering are changing throughout the session, too? Your state isn’t static. Stress, thoughts, time of day, physical sensations, and what happens during the interaction can all shift how present you are with the person in front of you.
Curious to look at these familiar practices differently?
This masterclass goes beyond collecting more grounding exercises. You’ll explore why these practices work differently, how to recognize what may be needed in the moment, and how to make more thoughtful choices for yourself and the people you serve.

What You’ll Leave With:

  • A clearer understanding of grounding and centering — and why the distinction matters. Learn to recognize the physical, psychological, energetic, and spiritual dimensions of these practices, how they differ, and why treating them as interchangeable can limit the choices available to you.
  • More ways to ground and center — beyond a single familiar technique. Explore approaches using breath, movement, imagery, sound, body awareness, mental focus, and other sensory pathways so you have more options for yourself and the people you work with.
  • A more thoughtful way to customize techniques to the individual. Learn to consider sensory strengths, abilities, pacing, readiness, boundaries, and moment-to-moment response rather than assuming the same approach will work for everyone.
  • Greater discernment about when to continue, adapt, pause, or choose another approach. Learn to notice when a grounding or centering practice may not be supportive in that moment and how to respond within your scope of practice.
  • A stronger connection between technique, ethics, and scope of practice. Explore boundaries, client safety, readiness, referral, and ethical decision-making through practical examples and discussion.
  • Greater awareness of your own grounding and centering. Experience these practices for yourself and explore how your own state, boundaries, and presence can influence the way you show up with others.
  • Resources to continue exploring after the masterclass. You’ll receive supporting materials and references so you can go deeper into the research, theories, traditions, and practices Lori introduces during the class.

This is the kind of learning that can change the way you see practices you’ve used for years.
Lori brings together decades of exploration, professional experience, diverse traditions, and emerging research to help you look beneath familiar techniques and make more intentional choices about what you use, when you use it, and why.

What Practitioners Are Saying About
Learning With Dr. Lori Chortkoff Hops...

Here's what we're going to cover together during the program:

❃DAY 1
Get Grounded: Building the Foundation for Present-Moment Wellbeing

Look more closely at what grounding actually does — why it matters, who may benefit, and when a different approach may be needed.
  • Understand what grounding is — and what it is intended to support. Explore physical, psychological, and energetic grounding, the principles behind each, and how grounding may support greater here-and-now presence.
  • Explore the theory and research behind grounding. Look across perspectives including Alexander Lowen’s bioenergetics, Chinese medicine, and research on grounding practices — giving you a broader framework for understanding why and how these approaches are used.
  • Experience different ways to ground. Work with standing poses, visualization, directed breath, sound, meridian tapping, and other approaches so you can experience different forms of grounding firsthand.
  • Learn to customize grounding for the individual. Consider your client’s needs, abilities, learning style, and sensory strengths so you can adapt the technique rather than defaulting to one approach.
  • Recognize when grounding requires greater care. Learn what to consider when a client may be less likely to benefit, when to modify or refrain from a technique, and when outside assistance or referral may be appropriate.
You’ll leave Day 1 with a clearer understanding of grounding, practical techniques to use and adapt, and greater confidence choosing an approach that fits the individual client.

❃DAY 2
Find Your Center: Building Focus, Balance & Present-Moment Awareness

Discover what centering offers that grounding does not — and how to recognize when it may better fit the person in front of you.
  • Understand what centering is — and why the distinction from grounding matters. Explore physical, psychological, and energetic centering and how its emphasis on internal focus differs from grounding in ways that can influence the approach you choose.
  • Explore centering through different traditions and perspectives. Explore perspectives from Chinese medicine, East Indian Ayurveda, and Christian centering prayer to deepen your understanding of the practice.
  • Experience different ways to center. Work with body sensations and feedback, body positions, imagery, and mental focus to experience different approaches firsthand.
  • Customize centering to the individual. Consider your client’s needs, abilities, learning style, and sensory strengths to create practices better suited to how that person responds.
  • Recognize when centering may not be appropriate. Consider factors that could increase risk, when another approach may be more suitable, and when outside assistance or referral may be needed.
You’ll leave Day 2 with a clearer understanding of what centering offers, how it differs from grounding, how to adapt it to individual needs, and how to make more informed choices about when and how to use it.

❃DAY 3
Practice with Care: Ethics, Self-Care & Responsible Application

Bring grounding and centering together — with the awareness to use them thoughtfully and responsibly.
  • Understand the ethical considerations behind grounding and centering. Explore principles that can help guide when and how you use these practices with clients.
  • Strengthen your awareness of boundaries and scope of practice. Learn to recognize where your role begins and ends — and when consultation, additional support, or referral may be appropriate.
  • Explore real-world situations through case examples. Work through ethical questions and challenging scenarios to see how grounding and centering principles translate into practice.
  • Bring practitioner self-care into the equation. Explore how your own grounding and centering can support greater self-awareness, balance, and well-being as you work with others.
  • Put the pieces together with greater confidence. Integrate what you’ve learned about grounding, centering, customization, client needs, and ethical decision-making into a more thoughtful approach to practice.
You’ll leave Day 3 with a more complete approach to grounding and centering — one that considers the individual client, your own well-being, ethical responsibilities, and the discernment to know when to adapt, refrain, consult, or refer.

Why Lori Hops Kept Asking a Simple Question:
"Are Grounding and Centering Really the Same?"

A question that started years ago became a much deeper exploration.

Lori’s interest in energy practices began early. As a teenager studying yoga, she kept hearing two familiar words used together: grounding and centering.

But she began to wonder....
Are they actually the same thing?

That simple question stayed with her.

As Lori continued her work in psychology, energy practices, movement, and healing, she began looking more closely at how grounding and centering were described across different traditions, theories, and areas of study.

What she found changed the way she understood them.

Grounding and centering are distinct experiences with different purposes — yet they are frequently taught and used as though they are interchangeable. And understanding that distinction is only the beginning.

Over time, Lori became equally interested in another question...
How do you know what the person in front of you needs right now?

That led her to explore sensory differences, pacing, imagery, movement, boundaries, readiness, ethics, and the many ways a seemingly simple practice may need to be adapted from one person to another.

This masterclass brings those threads together, not to give you one “right” grounding or centering method, but to help you understand these familiar practices more deeply and make more thoughtful choices about what you use, when you use it, and why.

Before You Join, Spend 23 Minutes With Lori
Hear Why She Thinks Grounding & Centering Deserve a Second Look

If grounding and centering are already part of your practice, this conversation may have you looking at them differently.

In this exclusive interview, Dr. Lori Chortkoff Hops shares what first made her question whether grounding and centering were really the same thing, how years of exploration changed her understanding, and why knowing a technique is only part of thoughtful practice.

In the interview, you’ll hear Lori explore:

  • Why customization goes deeper than choosing a favorite technique — including how sensory strengths, self-awareness, boundaries, pacing, and individual responses can influence what works for each person.
  • Why one technique doesn’t fit everyone — including differences in imagery, sensory awareness, pacing, and individual response.
  • Why even familiar practices deserve discernment — including situations where something as simple as breath awareness may not be supportive.
  • How ethics, boundaries, readiness, and scope of practice enter the picture when deciding whether to continue, adapt, pause, or refer.
